Tips for Great Grilling in Texas This Summer

Great Grilling In Texas | Mitchell Buick GMC | San Angelo, TX

Is there anything more quintessentially Texan than grilling? Walking out onto the patio, firing up the grill, and enjoying a delicious, smoky meal is one of the best parts of summer. With these tips for great grilling, you’ll drive San Angelo wild with the smell of ribs, burgers, and steaks.

To sear or not to sear

You should probably be searing whatever you’re cooking on the grill. Color means flavor, so getting markings on your steak, chicken, burgers, or veggies will make everything taste better. If you’re worried about something overcooking, move it away from the direct heat and let it cook like it’s in an oven.

Dry rubs are king

While some people may think of barbeque as a generic piece of meat slathered in — admittedly delicious — BBQ sauce, that’s not what makes it great. To bring your grilled chicken, pork, or really any protein to the next level, lightly coat it with a dry rub and allow it to rest for as few as 15 minutes or as long as 24 hours. You can still coat it in your favorite barbecue sauce later, but it will have a much richer flavor if post dry rub

Consider smoking

If you happen to have a charcoal grill, you’ve got everything it takes to infuse any meat with a delicious smoky flavor. Once you’ve got your coals started, carefully spread them around the basin of the grill, keeping them close together. Then, continue the circle with unlit coals so the heat will continue to spread.

As the heat moves through the coals, move your meat opposite the heat, and open the vent above it to maintain the appropriate temperature for your protein. This will slowly cook the meat while filtering all of the smoky flavor directly through it. Once it’s cooked rested, you’re in store for the summer meal of your dreams.

Texas is Trying to Stop Credit Card Skimmers

Stop Sign

Credit card skimmers have become a problem across the country, which is why the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has placed stickers on each gas pump. These stickers give details on ways to report suspected gas pump skimmers and also pumps that may be delivering inaccurate amounts of gas.

Each gas pump in the state of Texas has a sticker shaped like the state with three ways for you to report a questionable pump. You can do it by scanning a QR code, by calling 1-888-441-FUEL, or by going to the TDLR complaints page.

They also want you to stay vigilant for any signs of tampering at the pump. One possible way to spot a skimmer is to see if the fuel dispenser door seems damaged. Thieves have to open those doors to place a skimmer, so if the security tape is missing or damaged, beware of that pump.

There are also high- and low-tech options to spot a skimmer. The high-tech solution is an Android app called Skimmer Scanner that search for suspicious Bluetooth connections that could be associated with a skimmer.

The low-tech option is more like a precaution. You should try to pick a fuel pump that’s visible to the gas station clerk as pumps that are farther away would be easier for a crook to tamper with without being seen.

The last thing we want at Mitchell Buick GMC is for someone to leave the dealership in a brand-new truck, only for their credit card info to get skimmed the first time they fill up the tank. We hope that these gas pump stickers help customers better protect themselves.

4 Spring Car Care Tips

2020 GMC Acadia

A good way to stay on top of routine vehicle maintenance is to plan on performing some car care with the changing seasons. And with spring just around the corner, here are some helpful spring car care tips that will help you keep your vehicle in top shape all year long.

Wash and wax

Cleaning your car isn’t just about making it look good. Washing your vehicle’s exterior prevents the build up of corrosive substances that can damage the paint and harm the resale value of your vehicle. Go the extra mile and apply a coat of wax to keep your vehicle even more protected.

Monitor tires

Tires are one of the most important components of any vehicle. This spring, make a habit of monitoring your vehicle’s tires for proper pressure and alignment. Doing so will keep you safe and also ensure optimal performance.

Inspect wipers

Replacing your vehicle’s wiper blades frequently is inexpensive and a great way to stay as safe as possible no matter the conditions on the road. If your vehicle’s wiper blades are bent, cracked, or just not working like they used to, it’s time to replace them.

Look under the hood

Even if you’re no mechanical expert, it’s a good idea to take look under your car’s hood occasionally. A quick glance is often all it takes to check for any major corrosion or leaks that should be fixed right away.

Do you prefer to stay hands-off when it comes to car maintenance? No problem. Just bring your car to Mitchell Buick GMC for top-notch service. We’ll make sure it’s ready for the warm weather!

Three 2020 Buick SUVs Earn 5-Star Overall Safety Rating

2020 Buick Encore

Buick’s commitment towards building the safest vehicles was validated when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating to three of Buick’s 2020 SUV models. Buick is proud of the award and further inspired to find ways in which to make their vehicles even safer.

The NHTSA tests vehicles in three areas: Frontal Crash rating, Side Crash rating, and Rollover rating. The Frontal Crash rating measures the impact of a head-on collision at 35 mph for both the driver-side and passenger-side. The Side Crash rating combines scores from side barrier testing, a test to determine the effects of a side-impact collision. Rollover ratings reflect the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over in the event of an accident.

The three SUVs to receive the 5-Star Overall Safety Rating were the 2020 Buick Encore, Envision, and Enclave. The subcompact Encore received four stars in Rollover testing and five stars for both Frontal Crash and Side Crash ratings. The midsize Envision and the large three-row 2020 Buick Enclave both received four stars for Rollover and Frontal Crash ratings to go along with five stars for Side Crash ratings. Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning are both available in all vehicles.

Trick or Treat Tips for Kids

Trick Or Treat

Halloween is one of the most exciting times of the year to be a kid for a lot of reasons: dressing up, scary movies, and — of course — trick-or-treat. As we get closer to trick-or-treat time, keep these vital safety tips for kids in mind.

Driving on Halloween: While the Buick and GMC vehicles you purchase from Michell come with industry-leading safety features, trick-or-treat poses additional safety risks you must consider. Always take it slow and keep a watchful eye out for children at intersections, driveways, and even in the road.

Costume Safety: When planning your child’s costume, consider reflective or bright items to help drivers easily see your trick-or-treater. If your son or daughter has a dark costume in mind, have him or her bring a glow stick or flashlight to remain visible.

Pedestrian Pro-Tips: Have a conversation with your children before beggar’s night to discuss pedestrian safety. Make sure kids know the basics: look both ways before crossing, stay on the sidewalk, and be wary of cars. Importantly, children should know to put the cell phones and other gadgets away to avoid distractions.

Of course, the best way to ensure your child is safe during trick-or-treat is to provide adult supervision. No child under 12 should trick-or-treat alone, and older children should stay in groups.

Your friends at Mitchell Buick GMC wish your family a happy — and safe — Halloween.
